Summary :
Strong dipole-dipole interactions between Rydberg atoms induce an excitation blockade which is the key ingredient of many theoretical proposals and experimental implementations of quantum technology.
This blockade mechanism allows for the entanglement of atomic qubits and the manipulation of the information they carry. It also gives an atomic medium excited towards a Rydberg level a highly nonlinear optical response, which paves the way to the achievement of effective photon-photon interactions.
In this talk, I shall present my theroretical contributions putting them in the broader context of the recent evolutions of the field.
